Year in Review 2014 - 2015 This past year was a very eventful year. I had a few ups and downs along the way, but I made it through by the grace of God. Over the course of the year, I was a Darwin T. Turner Ambassador and Scholar, Outreach Committee Member for Student Body of Christ (SBOC), and later on a board member of Cincinnati Youth 4 Christ (CY4C), on top of being a University Honors Student. I was blessed with the opportunity to go on a service trip to Jamaica with Serve Beyond Cincinnati (SBC) which was an amazing opportunity. Additionally, it was my first year in the nursing program.
Over the course of the year, I have experienced many challenges. One of the main challenges was my nursing courses. Prior to the beginning of the school year, I knew I would have to be diligent to my work and limit all distractions due to the difficulty of the course work. Unfortunately, when the school year started, I was not as focused as I needed to be, which caused my grades not to be the best they could be fall semester. Spring semester, I was determined to do better than I did the previous semester. I started out well, but again, I became distracted and did not give my all, especially after spring break. Spring semester, I ended up with a 2.9 GPA which is the lowest GPA that I have ever gotten in my life. When I saw my GPA for spring semester, I felt like a failure. I was very disappointed in myself because I know my potential and I did not give my all. I thank God that I did not lose any of my scholarships and that He has given me another chance next school year to do better. Next year, I have no choice but to do my best and to be diligent. I owe it all to God to do better next year, especially since He has had mercy on me and given me another chance. If I could change anything about this past year, I would change not being diligent in my school work and my relationship with God. I did not live to my greatest potential this past school year. Also, I was not truly appreciative of all blessings God has given me. The Bible says “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (Colossians 3:17). I would change taking for granted all of my blessings and I would show God appreciation for everything that He has done for me. My advice for myself for the upcoming year is to be diligent! It is time to return to my vision for my future and make it plain. Somewhere over the past couple of years, I have lost my zeal and drive. It is time for me to remember my end goal and go through the hard work to get there. Get back to your go-getter mentality. Do not allow what the circumstance looks like discourage you. What you see is not always what it seems. Have faith in God that He knows what He’s doing and that He has already taken care of the situation. You just have to do what He says. The Bible says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Walk in confidence that in Jesus that all of your worries are taken care of. One goal that I have for the upcoming school year is to not to procrastinate. I have the tendency of being lazy and pushing things off until the last minute and then I end up stressing myself out. I do not want to be a last minute person anymore. So, I am going to do my best on preparing myself to complete my tasks well ahead of when they need to be due. I want to be more responsible and diligent. Additionally, I will continue to give back to the community through community service. This past school year, I began volunteering at a women’s shelter with my church. It is a very humbling experience. I want to continue to be a servant the way Jesus was during His ministry on earth. |
